The 2014 F-Gas Regulations are concerned with phasing out higher global-warming HFC refrigerants and phasing down all other HFC refrigerants across the EU. The Regulations came into effect on 1 January 2015. Among the many restrictions are bans on the use of certain refrigerants in multipack centralised commercial (i.e. retail) refrigeration systems with a cooling capacity greater than 40 kW. The ban of refrigerants of GWP>2,500 has already been in effect since 1 January 2020, and there is a further ban on refrigerants of GWP>150 due to come in to effect from 1 January 2022. Other restrictions affect the quantity of new HFCs that can be placed on the market and the use of reclaimed and recycled refrigerants for service and maintenance. For the webinar, there will be two presenters: Seamus Kerr of the IRI will present an overview of the Regulations and will outline where we are at present from a refrigeration industry perspective. Eoin Riordan, Technical Advisor, Environmental Advisory Unit, will present the legislative perspective and will report on compliance and enforcement issues and what the future might hold for F-Gas refrigerants.
