ASHRAE announced a strategic direction for the development of future editions of ANSI/ASHRAE/IES Standard 90.1, Energy Standard for Buildings Except Low-Rise Residential Buildings. While Standard 90.1 will maintain its primary focus on energy efficiency and energy cost justified requirements, the committee will also develop a separate, aligned document. This optional framework will provide a template for establishing commercial building requirements and procedures aimed at reducing operational emissions, including opportunities to account for the availability of renewable energy. ASHRAE has awarded 47 Society scholarships totaling $225,200 for the 2026-2027 academic year. The scholarships recognize outstanding students pursuing careers in engineering and the built environment while supporting the future workforce that will drive innovation across the industry. 
 
Effective immediately, the program’s two previous application deadlines have been consolidated into one annual deadline of April 1, 2027. Please reach out to scholarships@ashrae.org for more information. Read more
