Shaping Tomorrow's Global Built Environment Today

The U.S. Department of Energy has allocated $2.7 billion to developing a supply chain for nuclear reactor fuel. The department announced contracts for three reactor fuel companies in an effort to undercut Russia’s dominance in the market for advanced reactor fuel. The funding comes as electricity demand increases and federal policy shifts away from renewable energy development. Read more
In London’s Paternoster Square, there is a tall column on a heavy octagonal base that provides a few seats and shelter from the winds whipping around St Paul’s. If you look closely, you can see a mishmash of styles, with the Corinthian column topped by a gold-covered flaming urn and various baroque flourishes. The United States could nearly eliminate its carbon emissions and air pollution by 2148 if it maintained a pace of adding 43 GW of renewables per year, set during the first seven months of 2025, and achieved “near-electrification” of each energy-using sector. Researchers at Stanford University studied the U.S. and 149 other countries and found that China, which added renewable generating capacity at an annual pace of 397 GW during the first 10 months of 2025, is on pace to eliminate carbon emissions and air pollution by 2051. Read more
A collaboration between researchers at the Norwegian research organization SINTEF and a Swiss company has turned home heat pumps into thermal batteries that can release heat when required. This opens up the possibility of charging the pump when power rates are low and using the heat during peak hours. Read more

In air-conditioning system design and operation, sensible cooling is often achieved with dehumidification, a by-product of lowering the supply air’s temperature. In most modern buildings, dehumidification results from the condensation of moisture from humid air, and this process is central to maintaining optimal indoor air quality and comfort. Download here
