A reactor that splits water to make hydrogen using sunlight and photocatalysts, without conversion to electricity in between, has operated successfully for three years. Researchers at Shinshu University in Japan built a 100 m2 (1,076 ft2) prototype reactor using sheets of the photocatalyst SrTiO3: Al.  Read more
A university is probing whether retro-fitting homes to make them more energy efficient may reduce the amount of fresh air being circulated indoors, putting people with existing health issues at risk. The three-year study, a collaboration between Newcastle University, the city’s council and the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, has already collected data on 30 single-story terraced homes in the city that are due to have energy efficiency improvements implemented. Read more
