Standard 90.2—2024,
High-Performance Energy Design of Residential Buildings
The 2024 edition of ASHRAE/IES Standard 90.2 is here, and it is setting new benchmarks for energy performance and greenhouse gas emission control in residential buildings. Here’s a quick rundown of the latest updates:
- Expanded Scope:
Now includes multifamily residential buildings of any height, focusing on energy performance, emissions, and IEQ.
- Enhanced Retrofits:
New performance requirements for substantial energy alterations to boost efficiency in existing buildings.
- Distinct Requirements:
Updated guidelines for dwelling units vs. common areas, including new lighting controls and thermal envelope standards.
- Stricter Efficiency Limits:
Lower Energy Rating Index (ERI) thresholds and a new CO2e Rating Index (CRI) to advance toward net zero energy and carbon designs.
- Air Leakage Improvements:
Increased stringency to reduce air leakage and enhance energy efficiency.
- IEQ Alignment:
Expanded requirements for better indoor environmental quality, in line with ASHRAE Standard 62.2.
