ASHRAE Standard 241-2023, Control of Infectious Aerosols, provides minimum levels of clean airflow for each room while remaining agnostic about how that airflow is provided. This column looks at the energy and installation costs associated with various air cleaning methods in a sample room from a health-care environment. While every room will likely be different, this analysis can hopefully provide good rules of thumb for the most cost-effective, energy efficient means of complying with the standard. Read more
