On 10th August, ASHRAE Ireland Chapter hosted Dr. Clayton Miller, Asst. Professor at National University of Singapore for a technical webinar on \”Why building industry professionals should learn to code!\”. Clayton runs a hugely popular edX course entitled: \’Data Science for Construction, Architecture and Engineering\’, which has enrolled almost 20,000 students worldwide since its launch in 2020.
This course introduces data science skills targeting applications in the design, construction, and operations of buildings. You will learn practical coding within this context with an emphasis on basic Python programming and the Pandas library.
edX Course Abstract
Background: The building industry is exploding with data sources that impact the energy performance of the built environment and health and well-being of occupants. Spreadsheets just don’t cut it anymore as the sole analytics tool for professionals in this field. This seminar focuses on outlining the process of acquiring data science skills for building performance analysts with little or no previous programming experience. An introduction to data science skills will be given in the context of built environment professions. The seminar will provide numerous learning paths for various built environment-related tasks and help motivate participants to dive in!
