The ASHRAE UCD student branch co-organised the \”Young Member showcase and Flexibility in the Irish Energy System\” event together with CIGRE Next Generation Network (NGN) on the 21st of October. This was the first collaboration between the two chapters and was very apt given the topic of the day.

The keynote was provided by Marie Hayden from SmartWires and provided a call to action for systems change to the Irish energy system to address our decarbonisation needs. There were 10 participants in the YM showcase with a prize of an all expenses paid trip to the CIGRE Annual event in Paris.

Congratulations to Conor Mulholland and Damien Doheny, both from TU Dublin for winning this prize. The YM showcase was followed by a panel discussion with panellists from GlenDimplex (Muiris Flynn), Enel X (Niall Durham), ESB Networks (Padraig Lyons) and EirGrid Group (Diarmaid Gillespie) with Dr Lisa Ryan from the School of Economics in UCD chairing this discussion. This event was kindly supported and sponsored by the UCD Energy Institute and Engineers Ireland.
